The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) has urged travelers not to cancel trips to Bangkok in the wake of recent flooding in the Thai capital.
In a statement this week, PATA said that there was no need for tourists to change their plans, emphasizing that central Bangkok should not be affected by the flooding.
Central Bangkok and the majority of its suburban areas are functioning normally,” said the group in a statement.
“All of Thailand’s airports are operating normally, including Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok. There has been no disruption to BTS skytrain, the MRT underground and public transport systems in Bangkok. All Bangkok hotels and major tourism attractions are also operating normally.”
Although large parts of the Thai capitals have been affected by flooding, top tourist destinations such as Sukhumvit Road, Silom and Khao San Road appear to have been spared, although troops have been deployed to sandbag key attractions such as the Grand Palace.
Some estimates suggest that up to 25 percent of visitors to the country had cancelled their trip, just over a year over political unrest hugely dented tourist numbers.
Popular beach destinations such as Koh Samui, Phuket and Phi Phi, remain unaffected.
